TOU Calculator- Peak Hours

Time-of-Use (TOU) plans charge different rates depending on when you use electricity. The idea sounds great: shift your usage to off-peak hours and save money. But here’s the reality check most providers won’t tell you:

  1. These plans work by charging you a higher rate during “peak hours” (usually weekday afternoons when everyone cranks their AC) and a lower rate during “off-peak hours” (nights and weekends). The catch? You need to actually shift enough usage to off-peak times to offset those higher daytime rates.
  2. The math only works if you can move significant electricity usage to nights and weekends. Running your dishwasher at midnight and doing laundry on Saturdays helps, but if you’re home during peak hours with the AC running, you’re probably losing money compared to a simple fixed-rate plan.

This calculator uses your actual Smart Meter Texas data to show you exactly what you’d pay on a TOU plan versus a standard fixed rate. No estimates, no guessing. Just your real usage patterns and real numbers.
